⭐️ 🙌 Our experience with Backyard Grannys has been nothing short of exceptional 🙌 ⭐️ From our very first interaction nearly a year ago when we were first started looking to build, all the way through to post-handover of our 1 bedroom Seaforth build, the team have been so professional, knowledgeable and supportive.When I first submitted an online enquiry for a property we were looking at purchasing, Lauren and the team were so responsive in doing an initial desktop assessment to determine whether a granny flat could fit and came out to do a site visit not too long after we purchased it.When we progressed to the quoting stage, every step, inclusion and cost was thoroughly explained so we could rest assured knowing there wouldn’t be any hidden costs or surprises - transparency is one of the many strengths of the Backyard Grannys team. Everyone was so patient in answering all our questions to help us understand the process.The selections appointment with Bella and the team was excellent - the showroom allowed you to see all the inclusions and upgrades available, and to visualise how all the selections come together. It was also great visiting the display home at Jewells to see the finishes and to get some inspiration for the design of our granny flat. The approvals process was also incredibly smooth and we were kept up to date with progress and timelines. The communication from the team was top notch at every single step.During the construction phase, our Project Supervisor Brett was absolutely brilliant - he ensured the project stayed on track and that we were fully informed throughout the entire build. Working with Backyard Grannys was a fantastic experience!Last year I contracted another granny flat company to build my granny flat and it didn’t go well, ending up with an iCare insurance claim and having to start all over again. Having been burnt the first time around, I took a lot of care and due diligence to choose another builder and Backyard Grannys came out on top. Backyard Grannys proposal was the best value and they were very transparent and easy to deal with. They were also the most amenable to working with my unique situation.Having gone through a very painful and confusing CDC process previously, I was in the unique position to compare how Backyard Grannys handled the amended CDC for their design. It was like chalk and cheese.The process was smooth, easy to understand and well communicated. It was a pleasure working with every person at every stage, from initial meetings with management to sales, design & engineering, selections, contract, accounts, project management and handover. As a result, my development certificate was completed in just a few weeks, and I ended up with a great design for the block with high quality components.The construction went without a hitch. They started in October and the roof was on before Christmas. I was very happy with the finished product and couldn’t find any faults at final inspection other than a stiff roller blind chain that was quickly fixed.In retrospect, I’d say that the best part of working with Backyard Grannys is that they are large enough to have the people and scale to do a great job, yet it feels like you are working with a family-owned business where you can speak directly with them (including Management!) when you need to. Backyard Granny Flats has a system and it works! The selection process was so well thought out and the standard inclusion were up to date trends. We had a small hiccup at building stage but if you have ever built and juggled multiple trades and weather you would know nothing ever goes completely smoothly. However Backyard Granny Flats owned their mistakes and fixed things asap. The 2 bedroom flat will be to create additional income on our investment property. The ROI will be close to 10%

Working with Brett to build our 'backyard grannys' flat was an absolute delight. Communication was exceptional with the perfect amount of updates initiated by Brett however, he was also prompt to respond to any of our questions via phone and email.The other 'backyard grannys' team members were also always so professional and helpful, particularly when it came to choosing our selections/inclusions. The turn-around time of when the build started to when it was completed and ready for us to move in was perfect for us.We absolutely love the quality finishes of our home and feel 100% comfortable and happy with the overall build. 5 months after we moved in, we had a manufacturing issue with our kitchen tap. To his credit, Brett had this sorted and replaced within 48hours.We could not recommend Brett and the 'Backyard granny's' team (those at the forefront and those who worked behind the scenes) enough 🙂 It was honestly one of the best decisions we have made!

We just had our Granny Flat completed (Jan 2025) and myself and my wife are very pleased with the results. Backyard Grannys were flexible enough to incorporate a design which was generated by my wife utilising an off the shelf design/architecture computer program. Backyard Grannys then used this as the basis to complete an up to regulatory specification Granny flat design.Having heard so many horror stories of people having difficulties and severe disagreements with their builders, we found Backyard Grannys superior ethics and customer focused ethos to be a most unexpected pleasant surprise. We sincerely hope that Backyard Grannys never changes that aspect of your business, as in our case it has served you well, and gained you loyal and satisfied clients.The staff at Backyard Grannys are exceptional. From the sales and design team, to Backyard Grannys CEO Sarah Gow (who personally inspected each stage of the build) . Our site manager Aaron Mullins in particular was awesome. Great service at BYG right from the start. Josh was very thorough with his quote and also recommend Axon cladding which was slightly different to the original cladding I wanted but the Axon cladding really made the granny flat stand out! While at first the process seemed a bit stressful for me, I have to say that I couldn’t have picked a better team than Backyard Grannys - everyone was so easy to work with and nothing was too much trouble, with special thanks to the project manager Riley. I also want to thank the office staff too, especially Lynne, who was the best person to help guide me whenever I needed to ask questions. Backyard Grannys built our 2 bedroom Granny Flat, from the getgo we have had the BEST experience. They talked and walked us through the whole process and timings of when things would occur. We live 6 hours from where the building will be built, the communication was excellent and the upgrades we requested where done straight away, we made the colour selections over the internet which was just so easy, they called to confirm our selections and if there were any changes due to manufacturers issues they were onto us to let us know and a like for like products where used. The built was quicker than we expected and the handover occurred on the OCT long weekend, Graham walked us through the Granny and it is far better than we expected, the attention to detail and the quality is superb. Would I build with them again 110%. Do yourself a favour and check them out you will not be disappointed.

Backyard granny's was absolutely incredible. From the very beginning, it was really easy to keep the process moving along. You do not have to do a thing. You simply pick your design, go into the amazing head office to pick all your preferences and watch it come to life. Whenever i had questions, I just contacted the manager of my build Riley who was incredible. He was always there and nothing was ever a problem. This is our second project with Backyard Granny's. Jack was our Project Manager who made this process so easy, a great communicator and easy to get along with. Thank you also to Annette and Caroline for making the paperwork side of things easy. We were building on a sloping block, so I was expecting some issues to pop up, but no problems, expect we now have an amazing view over Redhead. From the first day to the last day this was such an easy process. All the tradesman's were great and took pride in their work and the finishes are a high quality. Backyard Grannys has just completed a 3 bedroom Brick home for us and we could NOT be happier! It was built in a record time frame 3-4 months only! (Especially when you hear other builders taking over 12 months!) From start Garry in sales was great and very helpful. Thank you Garry for being honest and for taking my every call and working out best options and layout for us. Big thank you Rochelle in planning again for being there every step of the way and so punctual and again same as Garry always been there when we had question and uncertainty on different things… Huge thank you to our building project manager Jack Peacock for making sure that absolutely everything was right! Every phone call to Jack when we would be worried about anything would finish up with us being happy and content and every time Jack would deliver what he promised in every detail which i loved about him as we are very particular and thorough.. The only thing i regret is that Backyard Grannys don’t do extensions as we need to renovate and do an extension in a house that we live in. I really mean it! Because they are the best! Backyard Grannys had been highly recommended to me and I decided to go with them after interviewing 2 other builders. My due diligence and trust in the recommendation paid off. My granny flat commenced during the uncertainty of lockdowns and supply issues in the building industry but Backyard Grannys were fantastic. Timber was a problem but they sorted the problem with steel with barely a hiccup. Adam the site manager was fantastic in ensuring everything went smoothly for me. He kept me informed with the build regularly and was meticulous at the final inspection, making sure everything was exactly as it should be. From the very first meeting with Grant from backyard granny’s, we have had outstanding service, communication and quality. Their team work together like a well oiled machine, all communicating with each other and taking the guesswork out of it for us.Having never built before this was a daunting experience for us, yet saying it was so Easy would be an understatement. The lovely Rochelle took all pressure off us and did all the leg work for getting everything through council so quickly and smoothly. From there the project was handed over to Tom McKell where he definitely had his work cut out for him. Our property was not as straightforward build, with many challenges, built on a slope with very difficult access. Again the communication and process was so smooth and efficient!There were no corners cut in quality and our “grandpa flat” is outstanding!Thanks to everyone involved we will always speak of Backyard Granny’s fondly and would not hesitate in using them again.Cheers Lynne, Rich and Family

I had so many specific ideas about what I wanted and I was able to get everything the way I wanted it. Build progressed quickly with good communication. I am very pleased with the final result and everyone that sees it is very impressed. A big thank you to Kristi who put up with a constant back and forth for months and Tom who oversaw the project and responded to all my questions in a timely manner.

I now have a beautiful new 2 bedroom granny flat in my back yard and I couldn't be happier. My yard is quite steep and the block is long, both of which presented challenges in the design and building process, all of which were overcome. The team were able to modify the design to fit my ideas and I am so pleased with the result! I have had some experience with building and renovating before and I can happily say that my granny flat has been built to high quality standards. The finishes are exemplary and I am so pleased with the overall product. The project manager Jack has been very responsive if I needed to call and forthcoming with information and suggestions. I will definitely be using these guys again

We have recently had the pleasure of Backyard Grannys building a 2 bedroom flat on our property. From start to finish we can not fault them. The whole team have been amazing and they have certainly delivered a quality build. Jack Peacock was our project manager and we are so pleased with his thorough knowledge of workmanship and his feedback and keeping us up to date was outstanding. We heard backyard grannys from one of my friends. They had very good experience with them and strongly recommended BG to us. So we chose BG to build the granny for us. Same story, couldn’t be happier with BG. The whole process is handled drama less. Very professional team. My plan was turned down by the private certifier at the beginning. we almost to give up the project but BG team work out an alternative plans to help us get through the application. There is no over budget. No surprise during the building process. Able to finish as scheduled. After handover they fixed small issues very promptly. Thanks Backyard Grannys

Backyard Grannys are the best! I have built 9 Properties in 6 years, for the Newcastle and surrounds I have used Back yard Grannys 3 times Why? The sales team led by Annette Munford secured my business by hearing my requirements working with me and developing a plan which met my objectives, I even tried other companies but they were immature in their approach to me. Once again when Backyard Grannys were engaged they took the lead and applied their well practised and proven successful project management process. With their dedicated planning and approval team ensuring the construction and development certificate is issued quickly and carefully and then an internal handover to Jack Peacock, their outstanding site manager, hands on, always available, problem solving and at all times professional. I'm a prudent investor and I simply want what I have paid for quickly and efficiently, which is exactly what Backyard Grannys deliver hence the reason for my 3rd build with them. I highly recommend the Backyard Granny system and the individuals Annette, Ashleigh and Jack who each diligently carry out and own their work. Really a great business made up of outstanding people. A lovely team of professionals. Both Kristi and Jack provided a pleasant stress free process, updating us every step of the way. The build time was quicker than expected, and through Cessnock council we were also able to obtain its own address, via the rear street that it backs onto. We couldn't be happier with our investment, we will be back again!

We were customers who were building a home (granny flat) for my mum & not a property for income.We had a lot of last minute requests/changes & a large amount of our own items supplied for a home my mum could love & call completely her own.Thank you to Tom, Grant, Ashlee & the whole team involved in this build. When looking for a company to build a Granny Flat I felt a bit overwhelmed and some companies add pressure, which I run from but the moment I contacted Backyard Grannys and met Grant who was so helpful, the process was managed with professionalism and integrity with no pressure at all! At each stage of the process I was informed of what was going to happen. Jack was our project manager and I only had to contact him and he got things done. I have no hesitation in strongly recommending Backyard Grannys. They are a company with integrity.

Hi Alex,Just a note on the outstanding customer service Tom has given me during my Granny Flat build at 95 Ungala Rd Blacksmiths.Tom has gone out of his way in helping me with build problems as they have arisen nothing seems to much trouble for him when you contact him or he contacts you for updates on the build, I am amazed at his patience and listening skills when I seek clarification on an issue or ask him a question.I had a lot of issues onsite particularly when a garage attached to my existing house was demolished, removal of that old garage exposed a lot of problems on that old house and Tom and your outstanding team of trades people worked on fixing the issues with me as they arose.I have never dealt with a more helpful and considerate trades person as is Tom in my 66 years on this earth, and I have owner built 3 houses in my younger days and have had another house my current home master built for me 16 years ago.I have been stressed out at times over this build due to unexpected problems which have blown out the build cost by the way no fault of your own but Tom has always had a fix at hand and given me good advice.I live here in Penrith and I tell you what, it is nearly impossible unless you are extremely lucky to find good honest and competent trades people like Tom he is a credit to your company.Tom even comes and waters the turf you have laid until it takes unheard of service in my book.I appreciate every ones help during the build process including Grant and Kristy who have both been great.I am so glad a friend of mine recommended Backyard Granny’s he sang your praises on his build that was enough for me I then didn’t seek further quotes from any other company.Keep up the fantastic work.Thanks and Regards,Joe Napoli

We completed the building of a Granny Flat at Avoca Beach with these guys earlier this month (June 2020). I have nothing but good things to say about them. Our site was a difficult, sloping location behind our house in what had been mainly unusable back garden. The team who worked through our design, planning, approvals and then construction were patient and thorough at every step - and we had some hurdles due to the steep site and council requirements - they dealt with everything. We never had a single disagreement or argument with anyone from their team from start to finish. This afternoon I have the local real estate agent showing prospective tenants through and we are excited to soon be getting a handsome return on our investment. Strongly recommended!

I couldn't be happier with our decision to go with Backyard Grannys. Initially we had a tough time deciding which company to go with as multiple companies had a good online presence & positive initial consultations, but Backyard Grannys delivered above and beyond our highest expectations. We weren't building our granny flat to make a quick dollar, instead we wanted to make something we were proud of, so we took our time with a lengthy design process. The team were very understanding and were more than helpful throughout the design while we modified floor plans and chopped & changed our decisions with their helpful input. It was a delight seeing our dream come to life. The construction process was easy & straight forward with regular communication with our construction manager. The finish product was a dream result. I helped my parents build their granny flat with Backyard Grannys. They were excellent to deal with, from the sales and finishes consultants right through to the project manager. The project manager, was very understanding with their needs for the home and going outside the normal build was never a hassle for them. They always did what they said they would do and everything was done on time. Their pricing was always reasonable and they earned our trust right throughout the process. Backyard granny flats were fantastic!After building two granny flats myself before engaging with them I had some concerns going to a granny flat company to complete my next one and after already building a new home with a large project builder i was worried i would get the same experience but this was not the case. From first meeting to the completion I was updated every week with emails, called with anything that had to change and given options. The price they quoted was exactly what i paid at the end. They definitely have it down pat and i recommend them to anyone in my career as a real estate agent.

I had decided to downsize in a little different way to most. Instead of moving from my very comfortable location I decided to build in the backyard and my youngest daughter and family would move into the primary dwelling. I wanted a home not a box. It was not until I found Backyard Granny’s that this dream looked like it could actually come true. From the time I met Grant, who made me realise that I didn’t have to accept a box, and Steve who helped design my home, the past not so wonderful experiences of building a home, were being forgotten. Kristy was next on my agenda, and the organisation and communication skills she needed to get everything in place for the build were greatly appreciated. Once the build began, it was Ethan, who was my contact person. Absolutely nothing was a trouble to him. His response was always fast and always there was a solution with a smile. I came to look forward to my weekly email on what had happened and what was expected to happen the next week. The main difference from previous building projects that I so much appreciated was the communication lines that were open all the time, the friendliness of all the tradesmen and the clean up of the site on a regular basis.The workmanship speaks for itself when you enter my home. The pride that each tradesmen had is shown off in the finished product. I have nothing but admiration for the whole team, and would highly recommend them to anyone wishing to build a granny flat

I want to give a massive THANK YOU to the whole team at Backyard Grannys. From the first meeting with Mick, to dealing with Kristi during the design stage, to working with Ethan who Project Managed the build, the team did a wonderful job in keeping me in the loop with the progress. My site had a few challenges (nothing to do with BG) however nothing was ever to much of a problem for any of the team. Even when the Mark director had to help and meet myself on site, due to some challenges with the existing house, nothing was to much to ask. I am so glad I chose Backyard Grannys to build my Granny Flat. I have achieved a great rental return of $350 p/w and everyone who I have shown has been blown away with the finishes. Thanks again team, I would have no hesitation to build with you again.

My wife and myself had a granny flat built by Backyard Grannys about 15 months ago.The whole experience at that time was very smooth and things were made to be much more pleasurable by people who could regularly be easily contacted and who knew what they were talking about with regular updates.I needed to get in touch with the company recently and was in communication with the the director-Alex Mitchell, about a matter where I was worried that they would not be in agreement.Even though it would have been pretty easy for them to be dismissive of the request ,I was grateful that Alex still tried to do the right thing by us and took the path of ensuring that we were properly looked after.It again demonstrated to me that the right builder was chosen in the first place! Knowing all the usual problems construction entails, I was wary, but surprisingly I couldn't be more pleased with how smoothly the entire build went. The place looks amazing and the level of finishes throughout is a true credit to the whole team at Backyard Grannys. It’s the little things I wasn't expecting but noticed too, like exterior rainwater and town water taps (you even fixed an old tap on the existing house!), tidy work site, quality sliding wardrobes, pegs on the clothesline, quality painting, plus both internal flooring and outside decking was all very neatly finished. And your ability to return/action any emails or phone calls I had made was second to none! They honoured everything in the signed contract and were super flexible around issues. There was no unexpected extra costs that I was asked to pay for and I actually got some money back as the build came under budget. Keep up the awesome work! Couldn’t recommend Backyard Grannys anymore!

my experience with Backyard Granny's building my custom granny flat has exceeded expectation. Working with Steve in the design department gave me my own unique granny flat. The granny flat is a very solid construction and the corbel in the brickwork gives it a unique finish with where the cladding meets the brickwork. Jack made the construction process go very smooth and kept me updated regularly. I recommend Backyard Granny's to anyone who is wanting to build a granny flat.

From the moment we first contacted Backyard Grannys through to completion of our project we found the team at Backyard Grannys particularly Ethan to be extremely accommodating.
